Happy Memorial Day!

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a federal commemorative date that takes place in the United States of America on the last Monday of May of each year, with the aim of remembering American soldiers who died in combat. Initially it was established to commemorate the fallen soldiers who participated in the American Civil War, although after the First World War it was extended to pay tribute to all the American soldiers who died in the wars in which this country participated.

It is difficult to prove the origins of this day, as more than two dozen towns and cities claim to be the birthplace. In May 1966, President Lyndon Johnson stepped in and officially declared Waterloo, N.Y., the birthplace of Memorial Day. Regardless of the place of origin or the exact date, one thing is very clear: Memorial Day was born out of a desire to honor our dead. On May 5, 1868, General John Logan, National Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, officially proclaimed it in his General Order No. 11. In 1971, the United States Congress passed the National Holidays Act. It was the moment that it was decided that Memorial Day be commemorated on the last Monday of May, with a weekend with three days of mourning. It is common for the President of the United States to give a speech on this date in which the work of fallen soldiers is remembered. It has become a family reunion day, where people do various recreational activities such as shopping or spending a day at the beach, and massive events at the national level, etc.
